The Point Puppet Musical @ The H&H Building

Just got an email notice from a friend and co-worker of mine about a puppet show upcoming in Baltimore. I used to do puppet stuff with my mom as a kid and we were always into the Muppets growing up. I’ve actually not got any firsthand experience as an adult in an independent arts setting though with this stuff, so it’s something I’m looking forward to getting involved with. Unfortunately, I won’t be attending this event (might have worked at it, actually) since I’ll be performing myself that night. But I thought I’d pass along the info as it sounds cool!

The Point, By Harry Nilsson
Directed by Ellen Nielson
Musical Direction by Dan Breen

A full fledged puppet musical suitable for all ages and psycho-active states. It’ll be at the
H and H Building, 5th Floor. Doors at 7:30, show at 8:00 p.m.
this Friday and Saturday the 20th and 21st. 5-20 Bucks, slidey scale.

Another news bit out of that email:

On a less exciting note, it’s worth checking out this city paper article about a bill proposed by the city council president that would seem to clamp down on DIY spaces in Baltimore City.

there’s more info here and here [pdf]. It comes up for vote on May 6th, so we want to get working on this soon.

I personally think that independent venues are right up there in importance with things like independent radio stations and truly alternative newspapers: that freedom of speech, press and assembly are fundamental to our civil rights. Without their exercise, we’re left wholly at the mercy of gigantic corporations and large moneyed interests to completely dictate the direction of our thoughts, feelings, passions and behaviors.
