A friend of mine bought me a book-on-tape about how to prepare for Y2K. Some store in the South, apparently, was still selling it new in its original packaging. It’s making me think a lot about my own level of readiness: what will I do when Y2K finally hits?
Ran into two people from my old juggling club today, quite separately. One on the street while going to buy a fancy juice. The other while helping out on carpentry stuff at the Annex Theatre behind the Copycat. With the arrival of Spring, the gears have begun really churning for me about my next steps in the arc of my current investigations into stagecraft and the performing arts. I’m learning a hell of a lot where I am doing hybrid run crew/bit part background acting. Planning to go back to the summerstock theatre I attended last year in Cape Cod, potentially with an expanded role. And am thinking now as far out as the Fall to Spring season after that. Looked around a little bit on backstagejobs.com for theatre tech positions open in other cities as well as crew gigs for touring companies. My desire to travel has not lessened any; in fact it only seems to be intensifying as the weather and temperature improve. My friend at the Annex tonight said something about how summerstock taught him to go into “theatre mode”, wherein you become totally focused on the accomplishment of this one overarching goal. The benefits of the ability to slip into and maintain that mindset and focus have been tremendous over this past year and I feel like will only increase over time as I really learn how to develop it both as inner and outer craft. So those are my goals for the coming year. And I’d ultimately like to be able to transit the skills and abilities I am gaining into mounting shows of my own, and helping friends fulfill their dreams and artistic visions.
