Been thinking about this passage for the past few days, then found someone in my referral logs looking at an old post on the demonic possession/”my name is legion” part of the Jesus story. It involves pigs, in case you’ve forgotten:
8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.
9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.

Yes this swine flu thing has been eerie for me. Last October I began working on a loose and experimental script for a satirical and self referential B-Movie horror film that I tried to have absorb the currents of what was going on in society via as realtime as possible. (I began filming it without the script as I wanted to up the experimental value)
My main plot thread involved a cult of media terrorists dawning pig masks and calling themselves “Legion.” As I was conceptualizing all of this I had some incredible synchronicities involving both pigs and the same verses in Mark, which gave me the intuition that I was on the right creative path.
In November I posted a picture on my myspace of a pig mask sitting on a toilet with the caption “The Vengeance of the New Aeon will have the head of Swine.” It was at this time that I began to expand the plot thread into the spreading of somekind of disease. In particular I was contemplating somehow tying it all in with the bizzare “Morgellon” phenomenon, but due to my hectic schedule I had to put the project on hold.
So when the Swine flu thing hit, naturally I was a little curious so I started going over my notes from months back and was surprised to see that I had jotted down a note, that I didn’t remember, that said “The Legion disease is a chimera.”
And low and behold, the current flu is in fact a strain of chimera DNA.
Naturally I’m curious now how this thing will play out, but I’m now at a crossroads on whether I should go forward with the project. On one hand it’s always nice to keep art dangerous and provocative if genuine, but on the other hand it could be interpreted as a cheap exploitation.
I guess a lot of these flu bugs come from China. They have a lot of pigs and geese there. The virus passes back and forth between the geese and pigs and mutates. So then dangerous strains can form.
Of course people die from flu every year, so I don’t see where the line is exactly of when this became a pandemic.
Seems like all this scary stuff is about fear of the future. Billions COULD die from swine flu.
My friends sister just got back from Mexico. She says that people are taking pretty good care of themselves and it’s not too much of a worry for people outside of Mexico City.
