1923 Huckster (Car)

This is only tangentially-related to my main line of inquiry. While searching online for images of what a “huckster” would look like in the popular imagery of today, I found images of a fantastically sweet old car with cool wood components called the “Huckster.”

    c.1200, M.Du. hokester “peddler,” from hoken “to peddle” (see hawk (v.)) + agent suffix -ster (which was fem. in Eng., but not in Low Ger.). Derogatory sense is 16c.; specific sense of “advertising salesman” is from 1946 novel by Frederick Wakeman.
