Occult Tattoos Links & ResourcesHere's a bunch of links that I put together about the occult and tattoos. These categories are kind of arbitrary and overlap a bit. This is so far the biggest list I have seen online of it's type. I tried to cover a wide variety of areas, and different types of resources. If you have a website or know of one that would be a good addition to this links page, go ahead and contact me. Thanks! Enjoy.
Alchemical, Astrological/Zodiac, Runes & Tarot SymbolsAlchemy, astrology and other ancient systems of thought and divination are great places to mine for occult imagery and symbolism. I especially like tracing how these symbols connect through various cultures and groups back through history. And how each one added a new layer of knowledge and power to these symbols.
Books on Tattoos, Symbols & MoreA bunch of different books on tattoos and symbols, some of which I have read or seen myself, and some of which I have seen referenced online - plus a few that are now on my Amazon wishlist, cause they seem pretty cool.
Magic, Magickal & Esoteric SymbolsA variety of links to magic & other secret symbols.
Masonic Symbols & TattoosI don't know too much about the Freemasons, but they seem to come up in references all the time. They definitely have some great symbolism, which ties into all kinds of religious & occult stuff from many cultures & traditions.
Non-Retarded Christian perspectives on tattooingThere seems to be tons of stuff written by fundamentalist Christians online decrying how tattoos are the work of the Devil & how God will hate you if you get tattooed. Of course, I think this sort of thinking is completely retarded, so I tried to put together some links from Christians who are a bit more open-minded about tattoos.
Pagan, Wiccan & Neo-Pagan SymbolsWiccans and other neo-pagans add an important layer to modern occultism, drawing their symbols and imagery from all over.
Religious & Cultural SymbolsThis section consists of miscellaneous religious images from several cultures, along with some cool non-occult types of sub-culture symbols, such as from hobos & pirates (both of which are pretty awesome).
Religious, Mythological & Other Tattoo GalleriesHere's a bunch of different galleries of tattoo photos. They include religious & mythological, but also some fantasy & cartoon stuff, since I feel like those are all ultimately pretty closely related, since they all deal with archetypal figures from different types of interesting story-systems.
Satanic & Demonic Symbols, Imagery and TattoosI was surprised by how few good things I could find online for diabolic & demonic tattoos and symbols. Most of the resources were either put together by Christians, or by people who clearly didn't know anything about the topic.
Sigils & Seals"In Western magic, sigils are symbols connected to a set of ideas by which spirits or deities may be summoned to awareness and controlled. They are used in divinatory practices. The term is derived from the Latin "sigilum" meaning "seal." The sigil itself does not call forth the spirit, but serves as a physical focus through which the magician achieves the desired state of mind. Sigils represent the secret names of spirits and deities who manifest themselves differently to each magic practitioner. Once the magician has summoned the spirit or deity he may control it, if necessary, by subjecting its sigil to fire or the use of his magical sword." (Description from The Mystica)
Tattoo Meanings & HistorySome interesting stuff about tattoos, their meanings and history, from around the world.
Tattoos, the occult & crimeWhile researching occult tattoos, I found a lot of references to serial killers who are frequently characterized as having their bodies "covered in occult tattoos." I'm sure there are some murderers who have had lots of occult tattoos, but I also feel like this is probably just another subconscious way that people demonize tattoos and their bearers, by connecting them to heinous crimes in the public mind.
