Tattoos, the occult & crime

While researching occult tattoos, I found a lot of references to serial killers who are frequently characterized as having their bodies "covered in occult tattoos." I'm sure there are some murderers who have had lots of occult tattoos, but I also feel like this is probably just another subconscious way that people demonize tattoos and their bearers, by connecting them to heinous crimes in the public mind.
